DIMOKRATÍA – The fight against dictatorship in Greece

Greece, the motherland of democracy, experienced a military coup in 1967. On the morning of April 21, the tanks drove out of the barracks and dealt the death blow to the unstable democracy after the end of the Second World War.

The conservatives, the right-wingers and the generals took over the helm for seven years. Arrests, torture and deportations were the consequences.

For this exhibition, Stamuli photographed the traces on the walls in those districts that were central places during the dictatorship.

And in those places where the uprising AGAINST the colonels took place – which was ultimately successful and led to the re-establishment of democracy.

The DIMOKRATÍA cycle is intended as a reminder that democracy is still under threat today. And that anyone who wants to preserve it must stand up for it.
